Andrey Azarskova killed in paragliding accident near Columbia, Illinois

A 40-year-old Ballwin man died Sunday morning in a paragliding accident near Columbia, Illinois.
The accident happened along Ramsey Road just before 11 a.m., according to Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards.
The victim, Andrey Azarskova, was attempting to take off from a field when he lost control of the paraglider.
His parachute was caught by a gust of a wind and pushed toward Ramsey Road. When Azarskova landed, he was struck by a passing Ford F-250 pickup truck.
Azarskova was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The FAA was contacted, but since the FAA does not require licensing or certification to operate a paraglider, the Columbia Police Department will maintain control in the case.
